OAKLAND, CA — Today, California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) released the following statement in response to AB 1866  (Hart, Smallwood-Cuevas), AB 2716 (Bryan), and AB 3233 (Addis) being signed into law.

Statement from Mary Creasman, Chief Executive Officer, California Environmental Voters:

“AB 1866 (Hart, Smallwood-Cuevas), AB 2716 (Bryan), and AB 3233 (Addis) are not just about cleaning up or regulating oil wells, they address longstanding injustices for low-income and frontline communities that have been disproportionately affected by corporate polluters. For too long, these communities have lived with the risks of abandoned oil wells, toxic emissions, and without meaningful protection.

These laws reflect a commitment to prioritizing the health and safety of people over corporate interests. By holding polluters accountable for their impact and empowering local governments to make decisions about oil and gas operations in their own backyards, we are finally giving Californians the tools to fight for cleaner air, safer neighborhoods, and a greener future. We are grateful to Governor Newsom and Assemblymembers Hart, Smallwood-Cuevas, Bryan, and Addis for their tireless leadership in making this vision a reality.”

ABOUT CALIFORNIA ENVIRONMENTAL VOTERS

California Environmental Voters (formerly the California League of Conservation Voters) believes the climate crisis is here and this moment requires transformative change. California has the policy solutions to stop climate change but lacks the political will to do it at the rate and scale that’s necessary. EnviroVoters exists to build the political power to solve the climate crisis, advance justice, and create a roadmap for global action. We organize voters, elect and train candidates, and hold lawmakers accountable for bold policy change. We won’t stop until we have resilient, healthy, thriving communities, and a democracy and economy that is just and sustainable for all. Join us at www.envirovoters.org and on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. See more press releases.
