CLCV honors Dayna Bochco at Environmental Leadership Awards

Dayna Bochco is well known as a veteran television producer–together with Steven Bochco, their company has won over 10 Emmy Awards and produced hundreds of hours of television. But Ms. Bochco also does double duty as a committed advocate for California’s environment.

Bochco, who has long fought for marine life protections and worked for solutions to climate change, storm-water pollution, and marine debris, will be honored at CLCV’s annual Environmental Leadership Awards in Los Angeles on December 6th.

She is a longstanding member of Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), Co-Chair of the NRDC Los Angeles Leadership Council, active in the Environmental Entrepreneurs (E2), and is on the Board of Directors of NRDC Action Fund and Heal the Bay. As if that didn’t keep her busy enough, in 2011, Bochco was appointed to the California Coastal Commission and the Santa Monica Bay Restoration Commission. When interviewed about her appointment, Bochco had this to say about the Coastal Act, which created the Coastal Commission:

I’m a Californian. I’ve lived on the coast my whole life. The Coastal Act was one of the more important pieces of legislation. When I was in law school, we certainly studied it. It was a brilliant piece of legislation. And now, so many years later, certainly with how difficult it would be to get any environmental legislation of this magnitude passed, it’s really quite wonderful to know it’s there.

The Los Angeles Times also reported on Dayna Bochco’s environmental advocacy when she was named to the Coastal Commission:

Bochco worked three years ago to defeat the proposal to extend the 241 toll road through southern Orange County, one of most contentious projects in the panel’s history, and she campaigned in 2006 for the state’s landmark global-warming law, AB 32.

“I have been impressed with her from the very beginning as someone who is smart, strategic, focused and committed to environmental values,” said Joel Reynolds, director of the Natural Resources Defense Council’s Southern California program.

Bochco “will be a superb Coastal Commissioner because she deeply cares about protecting our coast,” said Heal the Bay President Mark Gold.

Bochco was an original member of the No on 23 – Californians to Stop the Dirty Energy Proposition Committee and was on the Prop O Citizens Oversight Advisory Committee for the City of Los Angeles. In honor of her many accomplishments and tireless work, CLCV is proud to present Dayna Bochco with our Environmental Leadership Award this week.
